I am committed to cultivating an environment where the value of each individual is not only recognized but celebrated. I believe that every person brings a unique story, perspective, and set of skills to the table, and it is through embracing these differences that we can foster innovation, collaboration, and sustainable growth. I hold the firm belief that everyone’s life experiences contribute to the rich tapestry of our team. By acknowledging and appreciating each individual’s story, we can create a workplace that is inclusive, understanding, and supportive. I am committed to fostering a culture where diversity is not only embraced but is seen as a strength. I encourage open communication and active listening, ensuring that every team member feels heard, valued, and empowered to share their insights.
Authenticity is at the core of my leadership philosophy. I strive to lead by example, being true to myself and transparent in my actions. Authentic leadership creates a foundation of trust and builds strong connections within the team. By demonstrating vulnerability and humility, I aim to inspire others to do the same, fostering an environment where people feel comfortable bringing their whole selves to work. In doing so, we can harness the collective power of authenticity to drive creativity, problem-solving, and innovation.
I embrace the principles of servant leadership, where the leader’s primary role is to serve the needs of the team. By putting the well-being and growth of others at the forefront, we can create a positive and supportive workplace. I am committed to removing obstacles, providing mentorship, and empowering team members to reach their full potential. Through servant leadership, we not only achieve individual success but collectively elevate the entire team.
I view leadership as a journey of continuous learning and development. I am dedicated to investing time and resources in the growth of each team member. By providing opportunities for learning, mentorship, and skill development, we can create a workforce that is not only adept at current challenges but is also well-prepared for future opportunities. Sustainable growth is achieved through the collective elevation of individuals, and as a leader, I am committed to fostering an environment that encourages and supports ongoing personal and professional development.
Educating others is among the greatest and most valuable opportunities to serve others. While teaching is a demanding responsibility, it is also extremely rewarding when a student converts their potential into being their reality by achieving their academic goals. Following extensive experience in the public and private sectors, I firmly believe it is my responsibility to share knowledge in a manner that promotes academic, personal, and professional growth.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once stated that the true goal of education was to foster intellectual and character growth by teaching others to think intensively and critically. As an educator, I understand that this is no simple task. In order to achieve intellectual and character growth, I strive to provide a classroom that is both welcoming and engaging. I recognize that there is great value to each student’s story and that our pasts serve only to demonstrate evidence of growth. I encourage open, respectful communication of ideas and perspectives in an effort to challenge the critical thinking skills of my students. Furthermore, I utilize both the physical and virtual classrooms to establish a functional community that values relationships, promotes fairness, demands integrity, and encourages participation.
My approach to teaching is one that leverages humor and interactive discussion to assist students in finding the ability to practically apply the knowledge, skills, and abilities addressed in my courses to their own lives, careers, and academic pursuits. I set extremely high standards for my students and consciously seek to utilize each course to emulate the business environment. I expect timeliness, focus, and accountability from my students. However, these approaches are carried out in a manner that promotes collaboration and values the insight and input from each student. Lastly, I recognize that an educator must never cease to learn. I continually work to establish meaningful relationships with my students in an effort to increase their perceived value of their education. I ensure that my students understand that we learn together – just as they learn from me, I am learning from them. I encourage my students to assist me in finding ways to improve each lecture, each assignment, and each course. I seek opportunities to transition the established relationship with students from being one of an educator to one of a mentor. In doing so, I recognize that I may have the opportunity to invest in my students in a manner that they may have never experienced before.
MCC Committee Involvement
Building Safety Coordinator (Fall 2018-Present)
During the 2018 Fall semester, I was approached by the Building Safety Coordinator and asked whether I would be interested in taking on the responsibilities of the position given my past experience and expertise. After consulting with my program director, I accepted the assignment of Building Safety Coordinator for the MAC building. As Business Programs relocated to the BT building, I assumed responsibility for building preparedness of the BT building alongside other building safety coordinators who were already established within the facility.
Phi Theta Kappa Faculty Advisor (Fall 2019-Fall 2023)
Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) faculty advisors assist student leaders facilitate on-campus activities and meetings required of the honors program. Additionally, faculty advisors offer academic insight, academic advising, and information on advancing their academic and professional careers beyond MCC. As a faculty advisor, I also assist with technological needs and support off-site operations through the development of PTK videos and resources for students who attend the college remotely.
Brightspace Team (Spring 2019-Fall 2023)
Following the dissolution of the D2L Transition Team, the Brightspace Team was established with a smaller selection of the original team’s membership. The team continues to be responsible for the same taskings as the original transition team; however, the Brightspace Team is also responsible for evaluating long-term system sustainability issues and solving problems related to ongoing Brightspace utilization. Most recently, the team convened with D2L developers and MCC’s leadership to evaluate a proposal on new data management plugins that would enhance the Success Coaches’ ability to track student participation and grades. Due to the recent hiring of additional support staff in the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), the demand for assistance from the Brightspace Team has diminished greatly.
D2L Transition Team (Fall 2018)
During the Fall 2018 semester, MCC leadership identified a number of stakeholders with technical expertise across the expanse of programs at the college to serve as departmental liaisons while the Brightspace learning management system was being deployed. While the LMS had been beta tested and deployed across the Spring 2018 and Summer 2018 semesters, Fall 2018 marked the first time that all faculty would be required to utilize the system. While on the team, I was responsible for attending weekly conference calls, identifying both problems and solutions impacting faculty at MCC, and supporting the development of text and video resources to train other faculty members. At the conclusion of the Fall 2018 semester, the D2L Transition Team was dissolved, and a new team focused on long-term system sustainment and problem-solving for Brightspace issues was established.
Community Involvement
Heart of Texas Council of Governments
In 2022, I was approached by the Homeland Security/Criminal Justice manager of HOTCOG with a request for specialized training courses for emergency managers, first responders, and disaster volunteers. Seeing the need for additional assistance within the region (comprised of Bosque, Falls, Freestone, Hill, Limestone, and McLennan Counties), I agreed to support the region and its responders through the provision of specialized training and incident management support for large-scale incidents. I continue to provide just-in-time training and professional development opportunities throughout the region.
Brazos Meadows Baptist Church
I am a member of Brazos Meadows Baptist Church in Hewitt, TX. I am currently working with church leadership to increase visibility and utilization of church social media profiles. I developed a simple, yet effective, approach to livestreaming church services to increase the church’s reach within the community, which integrates directly with the church’s social media practices.
From 2019 through 2020, I oversaw small-group instruction for children in the 4th through 6th grade and focused on developing the children in a manner that eases the transition into the church’s youth program when they reach 7th grade. In 2020, following the retirement of our youth pastor, I worked with a team of other church members to re-establish the church’s student ministry. Today, I continue to serve as a youth leader within the student ministry.
In 2022, I assumed the role of a teacher in the church’s Adult Bible Fellowship program – Brazos’ approach to Sunday School. I taught a group of 12 individuals on a weekly basis and offered assistance to them (and others) throughout the week.
In Spring 2023, I was asked to serve as a youth leader for the middle and high school boys. I continue to serve in this capacity while also overseeing the social and digital media ministries.

By maintaining my firm, I ensure that I remain connected to various industries and stay current on trends within those industries. Most recently, I completed the development of the Texas School Safety Center’s interactive K-12 High Quality Emergency Operations Planning Toolkit and the Higher Education Emergency Operations Planning Toolkit. Both toolkits are available on the Texas School Safety Center’s website.
